How Much Darvocet Will Numb My Body

Si apre il Congresso del Partito Comunista Cinese

Today, in Beijing, was officially opened 17 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China . The event, a veritable crossroads of national politics, will last a week and will be followed with interest by all governments of the world.
course, the island of Taiwan will be heard every word spoken at the conference. In particular, they are the center of attention all the talk about the relationship between Beijing and Taipei .
It is precisely on the question of Strait which was dedicated passage of the opening speech of President Hu Jintao .

Unlike recent statements, however, in which was stated in no uncertain terms the willingness by Beijing to take seriously the ' use of force to quell any ambition of independence, today's occasion was simply talking about peaceful approach towards the island.

What causes this "turning point"?
You can make a few comments on the matter.

First keep in mind that these days China has the eyes of the international community on to himself. Declarations of war from the very first time would be irreconcilable with the proclamations strongly in favor of harmonious society, development of science-based international peace and . Especially a few days away from the turbulent events, not yet fully completed, in Myanmar.

Secondly, we must not forget that Beijing can not be bad publicity less than a year after the climax of the event 'was Hu : the 2008 Olympics , which is the international showcase that will show the world the whole Republic of China (with all its wealth, its victories and of course its contradictions)

Finally, it is also fair to say that, on this occasion, the statement has not been anticipated by one of several political moves that we have become accustomed to the President of Taiwan, Chen Shui-bian . In previous cases because Hu and other leaders of mainland China were faced with more or less strong utterances of the volcanic Chen pledged in recent months in office to push and support the candidature of party colleague Frank Hsieh, and then decided to pull out every possible card plays.

That said, you should make one last clarification: the "turning point" of Hu, which really is not your turn, assumes that Taiwan is arguably China (It is also clearly reinforced by the fact that the vast majority of international governments accept and endorse the policy of 'one China ), and that the reunification will take place by peaceful means if and only if there were to be effective kowtow to the leadership in Taipei. Whatever it is: the Kuomintang Ma Ying-jeou or PDP Frank Hsieh.

Il referendum della discordia

With such a title, Tuesday, September 18 has been posted on Equilibri.net analysis signed on the current situation in the Taiwan Strait, more specifically, the article focuses on a particular Referendum.

Chen Shui-bian, President of the Island, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party and strong supporter of independence, wants to rally the people of Taiwan, and the means through referendum, to legitimize the application for entry the United Nations with the name of Taiwan.

Every year since 1993, officially asks to enter the island at the UN and systematically (as happened a few days ago) every year, this request is denied. On the basis of UN Resolution 2758
of 1971, as the island is Chinese territory and considered, although de facto independent it may seem, it is not de jure , as demonstrated the fact that, internationally, only a dozen countries recognize Taipei instead of Beijing.

So what is the news? Simple. For the first time, Taiwan tries to present itself with the official name of Taiwan, in fact, rather than with the ambiguous
"Republic of China" , which can assume a symbolic and legal supremacy of the island on the mainland, heritage the historic conflict between the Kuomintang of Chiang Kai-shek and Communist Party of Mao Zedong .
All this confirms the absolute will to Taipei to be considered "foreign body" in Beijing and creating all'inedita possibility of the existence of two Chinas.

And the problems? Less simple. The proposal for a referendum to legitimize the entry of Taiwan to the United Nations (which is to be held concurrently with the presidential elections of March 2008) can cause problems
relations between Beijing and Washington , forcing the two powers to confront a subject kept at bay (albeit with difficulty) for nearly sixty years.

How will they react and then the "big" in front of such a step (probably the prelude to a declaration of de jure independence
)? The anti-secession law that ' National People's Congress of China has launched 14 March 2005 states that in the event of secession or declaration of independence, it will result in military action in Beijing on Taipei. At the same time, an American law of almost thirty years ago ( Taiwan Relations Act) provides some "friendship" and mutual protection between the U.S. and Taiwan, although there are references to the official recognition of Taipei.

That said, remember that for different reasons, China and the U.S. do not seem willing (and not even ready) to a frontal collision to decide on this skein Taiwan. If, on the
Beijing come continuous and obvious references to Chinese sovereignty on the island, from Washington come admonitions and warnings to the initiative of Chen and some of its allies, considered to be too impulsive.
It is certain that the change of the status quo

Recentemente Yao Chia-wen , il Presidente dello Yuan degli Esami (uno dei 5 Yuan upon which the organizational structure of the island of Taiwan), has released an interesting interview to Radical New Agency, where he discussed the issue of independence, you want to be part of the leadership and Taiwanese population.
The interview was published after the United Nations has rejected a proposal by President Chen Shui-bian
, who asked for the entry of Taiwan within the international organization using the words Taiwan and consequently abandoning the historic designation Republic of China.

Below the comment of yours to that interview, also published on the pages of the New Radical Agency (1) :

"The thrust of President Chen Shui-bian
towards independence, in the latter period with rafforzatasi proposal made to the United Nations , has raised the very interest of the international community in the Straits.
Personally, I do not know what this
push be linked to the upcoming twin elections (and the President of the Legislative Yuan ) to help the candidate Frank Hsieh and all Party Democratico Progressista a governare per i prossimi quattro anni.
Allo stesso modo, concordo Yao with the President in considering China
braking from its current economic development and its internal balances to wage war against anyone. In addition, the next Olympic Games, a showcase for China too important to be thwarted by an act of force.
That said, do not forget the repeated references to the Beijing
policy of One China whenever the opportunity arises (ie, in any bilateral meeting with other countries), symbolic statements which are primarily to strengthen the anti-secession law of March 14, 2005 and, secondly, the current restructuring of the military, particularly with respect to the marine sector.
the view that even ideological Taiwan enjoys the support of many Western democracies (you could also say all), it is clear that in terms of diplomacy is going the opposite. Let's not forget the advanced Chinese
Africa and the current battle Caribbean to gain official recognition of the Central American islands. Further losses to Taiwan should be held in high esteem by the supporters of independence.
The current situation of '

Numerosi links ad altre pagine del web saranno presenti in ogni post, proprio per favorire al lettore la verifica delle fonti and, in some way, to encourage them to personal research so extensive and intensive .

A And 215 On A Little Light Blue Pill

Un'Unica Cina in cambio di un'Unica Chiesa?

The letter written to the Chinese by Pope Benedict XVI last week represents a measure of continuity with the work of its predecessors in Holy See , in particular John Paul II that Asia had identified the place in which to collect " a great harvest of faith " during the Third Millennium after the evangelization of progress made in Europe in the first millennium and the evangelization of Africa and America in the Second Millennium ( Manila, January 15, 1995 ).

The choice of writing to Chinese Catholics is also born from the desire to tackle and solve a problem for some time the relations between China and the Vatican: the issue of episcopal appointments
and " two Churches "in China: the official (the ' Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association, appointed and controlled by the state) and illegal (which follows from Rome). Identifying the figure of the Bishop the visible source and foundation of unity in the Church, Josef Ratzinger points out that " for the unity of the Church in individual nations " is indispensable " that every bishop is in communion with the other bishops, and that all are visible and concrete communion with the Pope ", and it is therefore a contradiction in terms the existence of two different channels of priestly ordination.
Unlike
Pius XII, that the encyclical Ad Apostolorum principis of 1958 faced the problem in a rocky, Benedict XVI has chosen take a more pragmatic way and (if you want) more "political", though in the early passages of the letter, he explicitly refers to a statement Second Vatican Council, that " the Church is not identified in any way with the political community and is not tied to any political system "in addition to confirming that" the Church can not and must not take upon herself the political battle to bring the most just society possible. It can not and must not replace the State "although" not [may] not [should] not remain on the sidelines in the fight for justice "

However
Beijing the action of the Roman Church has always been seen as a form of interference in internal affairs and is therefore always been opposed. On this occasion, the response Journal the letter was very short and mild. Through Qin Gang, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the People's Republic has urged the Vatican to " make concrete actions and not create new barriers ." Declaring himself willing to continue " a candid and constructive dialogue to resolve differences ", the PRC has also not sold on two issues he considers fundamental: the ' interruption of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Beijing and Taipei in favor of the waiver affatri to interfere in internal Chinese, even in name of religion.

If the first point does not seem so insurmountable difficulties (in Benedict XVI's letter states, albeit in a general sense that "
the Holy See always remains open to negotiations " for the normalization of relations), less is easy for the Vatican to fulfill the second point, since the episcopal appointments must necessariamente trovare la propria origine in Roma e non in un autorità laica statale.

(La Città del Vaticano è l'unico Stato europeo che ancora after that recognizes Taiwan, in 1951, were interrupted formal diplomatic relations with Beijing)

Trane Furnace Problems

I 10 anni di Hong Kong

Today, 1 July 2007, in China has celebrated the tenth anniversary of the return of Hong Kong under the jurisdiction of Beijing after over a century of membership in the Commonwealth UK.
Hu Jintao, Chief of the PRC, visited the Special Administrative Region for a two-day visit in which the press has a lot of room. There are of course
missed some episodes of protest concerning democracy and representativeness of the people of Hong Kong in the executive of the region.

What has this to do with Taiwan ? Here we go.

In June 1984 the then Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping in anticipation of the return of Hong Kong to mainland China, made a proposal known as " One Country, Two Systems . According to the plans of Deng, the day after passage deliveries from London to Beijing and for a period of 50 years would remain a Mainland socialist system while Hong Kong Special Administrative Region would continue to maintain its capitalist system . T
ale proposal was also made to the island of Taiwan (see "One Country, Two Systems" taken from "Selected Works of Deng Xiaoping "), whose return under the jurisdiction of Beijing has always been the dream of China after World War II forward.

Obviously, Taiwan has never welcomed the proposal, especially in recent years during which the leadership of the island was in the hands of President Chen Shui-bian , convinced belonging to the separatist Democratic Progressive Party (PDP), recently decided to let the island in the major international organizations (see UN and WHO) with the official name of Taiwan.

E 'Deng's formula applicable to the case in Taiwan? Before responding, you should keep in mind a fundamental fact:
Hong Kong and Taiwan are two completely different historical and political realities .

World War (when it was part of the Japanese) and, in addition, the island has gone through the second half of the twentieth century as a separate de facto separated from mainland China. Not only that, until 1971 Taipei has been almost universally recognized as Chinese capital for all purposes.
The recent movement for the independence sponsored PDP and President Chen also make it more complicated than the discussion on the draft of Deng Xiaoping relatively the island of Taiwan.

In fact, the formula "one country, two systems" necessarily implies the membership of Taiwan to China, which is part of the Taiwanese population (specifically, the one near the PDP) does not want. One application may come if and only if Taiwan decides to abandon any desire for political independence.

Of course, first you might consider the current status quo as a primitive form or sketched the project under discussion. From the point of purely political view, in fact, Taiwan does not enjoy widespread international recognition and appears in a few international organizations (and not with names such as Chinese Taipei ), but retains economic relations "independent" with almost every country in the planet and keeps considerable internal autonomy.
addition, the population of Taiwan has not seen such a negative way in the formalization of a situation that continues to unofficially for years. Pragmatically speaking, the de jure independence at the time could bring more harm than good Island

But it is also true that, although economically the system together with that of Taiwan and Hong Kong, under the profile political discourse is completely different.
Some features provided by the present condition of Taiwan, as the official recognition by some countries (though a few "small") or the high degree of democracy reached the island over the years as well as the 'self-government or the management of military affairs , rischierebbero di decadere all'indomani di una eventuale unificazione con la Cina.

Of course, prevents the recognition of the dreaded "two Chinas", but at what price?

the immediate "green light" to independence will certainly not come from Beijing. Not only that. They are the United States itself (always the main "allies" of Taiwan) to advise against such a course for the good of the island and the tranquility of the Far East .
The formula "one country, two systems" is therefore currently the sweetest way proposed by the PRC to sweeten the pill of the desired unification. For Taiwan, however, there seems to be enough sugar to digest a similar medicine, maintaining the status quo It therefore seems to still be the "lesser evil".

Antique Letter Opener Value

Messaggio di Benvenuto

The blog "The Bare Necessities" comes from the desire of the undersigned to create a meeting place for all those interested to get information or discuss issues relevant to the Taiwan Strait, well-defined geographical area since the end of World War II is one of the main hotspots of Asia.

lover and scholar of international politics, for years I have focused my attention on issues interent 's Far East and, therefore, I can say that the Taiwan Strait merits special attention.
Clearly, the subject of the blog is not only the passage of water between the two sides of the earth (The island of Taiwan and the coasts of Fujian ), but every event that, in a somehow, is connected to historical and political evolution of the island once known by the name of Ilha Formosa, not coincidentally, the subtitle of the blog is " talk about Taiwan and its .
The focus is naturally on the island, but there are references to other realities of the continent or the planet. Provided, of course, all this does not deviate too much from the Strait.

Why it was decided to call it essential ? Leveraging a popular word game, it was intended to highlight the importance of the geographical area in question. And 'in fact still on the debate between those who want an internationally recognized independent Taiwan, who considers it to all intents and purposes a province of China and finally those who prefer to maintain the current " Status Quo" . Although this site does not come to a conclusion (or even is the aim of the blog), I believe that the adjective "essential" is more precisely to define that ap the question of the Straits.
Finally, it can be said that within the blog will be written, in fact, the bare essentials. No digressions: only Taiwan.
