Abortions in decline, but the wound remains open.

L 'Abortion in 2009 showed a further decline, but it remains of importance such that each every five children born nel nostro Paese a uno viene impedito di vedere la luce.

This index was in 2009 amounting to 8.3 per thousand, a decrease of 3.9% compared with 8, 7 of 2008, and 51.7% compared to 1982 (17.2). These values are among the lowest compared to other industrialized countries.

Since 1983 the abortion rate decreased in all age groups, with greater emphasis on those plants. With regard to the minor abortion rate in 2008 was equal to 4.8 per thousand, unchanged from the previous year, with higher values in northern and central Europe. It is confirmed however that the recourse to abortion among young women is lower in Italy than recorded in other Western European countries.

Although the data are not strictly comparable, it was found that for women with less than twenty years in Italy in 2008 the abortion rate was 7.2 per thousand in the same year in England and Wales is 24 per thousand and 24.4 per thousand in Sweden, in Spain, 13.5; in France in 2007 was 15.6 in the U.S. in 2004 for 20.5. Only the very best of Germany, who in 2008 recorded a rate of 5.

The report to the note "a specific Italian situation," pointing out that not only "elements of prevention," but also "broader cultural factors," the landscape behaviors related to responsible procreation and abortion in Italy "substantially different from those of other Western countries, particularly in Europe where abortion was legalized." We, that is, a country "but also low-low-birth abortion - then abortion is not used as a contraceptive method - and also a country with limited spread of chemical contraception. Other countries (France, Britain and Sweden) have the highest abortion rates in the face of widespread chemical contraception. "

The decline in the number of abortions is more sensitive over the years, among the more educated women, between the occupied and between spouses. "At the same time, however - the report emphasizes the Ministry of Health - the data shows that nearly half of all abortions, and between the Italian (48.6%) than among foreign women (46.7%), and women with employment work ' and only 11, 9, between the Italian, and 22, among the foreign concerns or unemployed women seeking their first jobs.

Overall, in addition, the frequency of unmarried and married is similar: the former shall prevail between the Italian status (49.7%) and the second among foreign women (49.3%).

We used 31.3% of the 52.4% of Italian and foreign.
